Under the patronage of the Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the King Abdulaziz Foundation, Prince Faisal bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the foundation launched the program (The Complete Works of Pioneer Historians) and released its first publication, the book (The Title of Glory in the History of Najd) by historian Othman bin Abdullah bin Bashir, during a ceremony held in the King Abdulaziz Lecture Hall in Riyadh.
Upon his arrival at the event, Prince Faisal bin Salman viewed the accompanying exhibition, which included samples of manuscripts by historian Othman bin Bashir and his historical documents, showcasing a part of his scientific legacy and his role in documenting the history of the Arabian Peninsula.
The CEO of the King Abdulaziz Foundation, Turki Al-Shuwair, confirmed that the program was initiated under the direct guidance and follow-up of Prince Faisal bin Salman, continuing the foundation’s mission to collect, authenticate, and publish the works of pioneering historians, noting that the project reflects the great interest that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, has in national history and its sources.
He explained that the first phase of the program aims to collect the complete works of five of the most prominent pioneers of historical writing in the Kingdom: Othman bin Bashir, Muqbil Al-Dhakeer, Khalid Al-Faraj, Muhammad bin Laboun, and Muhammad Al-Fakhri, in addition to organizing specialized workshops with the participation of researchers and interested parties to contribute to the collection of related documents and manuscripts and enrich the scientific content of upcoming publications.
For his part, retired Major General Ali bin Nasser Al-Bashir, in a speech on behalf of the family of historian Othman bin Bashir, reviewed the historical value of the book (The Title of Glory in the History of Najd); which is considered one of the most important references in the history of the Kingdom, explaining that the last version written by the historian in his own handwriting remained preserved with his family until it was deposited with the King Abdulaziz Foundation to make it available to researchers and preserve it for future generations.
The ceremony featured a presentation of an introductory film that addressed the goals of the program and its scientific dimensions, along with a review of the scholarly significance of the book (The Title of Glory in the History of Najd). Dr. Muhammad bin Ali Al-Abdulatif also presented a discussion on the journey of authenticating the book, outlining the scientific stages the project underwent, starting from collecting handwritten copies, studying and comparing them, to producing a documented text that preserves the authenticity of the historical source.
The program (The Complete Works of Pioneer Historians) aims to provide a more comprehensive reading of the journey of Saudi historical writing by collecting the scientific output of major historians in integrated works that reveal their methodologies, sources, and intellectual contributions, thereby expanding the horizons of research in the history of the Kingdom and the Arabian Peninsula and enhancing the presence of national sources in historical studies.
