The Bank of England raised interest rates by 25 basis points to 4% in its meeting today, Thursday, in line with expectations, marking the first increase since 2023.
The U.S. Federal Reserve kept the interest rate unchanged in the range of 3.75 – 4.00% after its recent meeting, as widely anticipated, following its rate hike last September.
Urgent Need
In this regard, Alberto Musalem, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, recently stated that he sees an urgent need to raise interest rates to address the high and persistent levels of inflation.
He said in a speech delivered during an event organized by the Shadow Open Market Committee, a group that evaluates the actions and policies of the U.S. central bank, “I believe that increasing the tightening of monetary policy will be necessary, and soon.”
