The head of the Actors’ Syndicate in Egypt, Ashraf Zaki, called on artists to unite and stand together to support the issue of public performance rights, emphasizing that it represents a fundamental right for all artists, and is not tied to a specific generation or names, but rather affects the present and future of the profession and its workers.
Recalling the Syndicate’s Stances
Ashraf Zaki, in an official statement, pointed out that the Actors’ Syndicate has witnessed throughout its history honorable stances in defense of its members’ rights, citing the late artist Tahia Carioca’s position during the sit-in in defense of Law 103, affirming that the current phase requires similar unity among artists.
A Call to Rally
The head of the Actors’ Syndicate also called on all members of the syndicate to attend the meeting scheduled for next Wednesday at the syndicate club, stressing that the unity of artists and their commitment to their rights represents the true guarantee for preserving public performance rights and safeguarding the rights of current and future generations.
Background of the Crisis
This move comes amid the escalating debate surrounding public performance rights, following the proposal made by artist and Senate member Yasser Jalal before the Culture and Media Committee in the Senate last May to activate this right, a proposal that received support from several artists and artistic unions, in contrast to the objections from some producers.
