In the latest developments of the legal crisis between the young artist Yasmina Al-Masri and the artist Ashraf Zaki, the Cairo Economic Court issued a ruling sentencing the former to one month in prison with hard labor, after convicting her in the lawsuit filed against her for defamation and slander.
Punishment and Fine
Shaban Said, the lawyer for the head of the Actors’ Syndicate Ashraf Zaki, stated in a press release that the court not only imposed a prison sentence but also fined Yasmina Al-Masri 15,000 Egyptian pounds, in addition to obligating her to pay 10,000 pounds as temporary civil compensation in favor of his client.
Background of the Crisis
Ashraf Zaki had accused Yasmina Al-Masri of posting phrases on her social media accounts that he deemed offensive, asserting that they included slander and defamation, as well as attacks on his reputation and that of his family, along with threats of harm, which prompted him to take legal action against her.
After receiving the complaint, the investigative authorities began examining the incident, before the security forces managed to apprehend the artist in connection with the case, which was later referred to the competent court that issued the aforementioned ruling.
The series “Abu Al-Banat” is considered Yasmina Al-Masri’s last artistic appearance, as she starred alongside the artist Mostafa Shaaban, and it aired during the Ramadan drama season in 2016. It was directed by Raouf Abdel Aziz and written by Ahmed Abdel Fattah.
