لقيت مبادرة جمعية الأدب المهنيّة بتخصيص منصة توقيع الكتب مقابل خمسة آلاف ريال ردود فعل رافضة للمبادرة، كونها تضيف على المؤلف أعباءً مالية.
وتناول رئيس الجمعية السابق الدكتور صالح زياد الخدمة بالنقد، وكتب على حسابه بمنصة «x»: «صُدمت حين قرأت إعلان جمعية الأدب المهنية، الذي يدعو الأدباء إلى تنظيم حفلات توقيع لكتبهم، بمزايا تشمل ندوة نقدية وترويجاً إعلامياً وتنظيماً متكاملاً، مقابل أن يدفع المؤلف 5000 ريال».
ورجّح أنها ثمرة النظرة التجارية للشركة التي تتولى تنفيذ أعمال الجمعية، موضحاً أنه سيختلط معياران ينبغي الفصل بينهما: الاستحقاق الثقافي؛ والقدرة على الدفع.
وعدّ زياد حفل التوقيع، وما يشتمل عليه من ندوة نقدية وتقديم وترويج إعلامي، من صميم وظيفة المؤسسة الأدبية في اختيار المنجَز الجيِّد وإبرازه وصناعة الحوار حوله.
وأضاف: «حين يصبح الدفع شرطاً لهذا الحضور، يكون معيار الاحتفاء قدرةَ المؤلِّف على تحمُّل تكلفته، لا قيمةَ الكتاب واستحقاقه الثقافي».
فيما أوضح رئيس مجلس إدارة جمعية الأدب المهنيّة الدكتور حسن النعمي، أن منصة توقيع الكتب «خدمة اختيارية» تتيحها الجمعية للأدباء الراغبين في الاستفادة منها، ولا يترتب على عدم الاشتراك فيها أي التزام، وللأديب كامل الحرية في اختيار المكان والوسيلة المناسبين لتوقيع إصداره، موضحاً أنها تقدم حزمة من الخدمات المهنية والتنظيمية والترويجية المصاحبة لتوقيع الإصدارات، وفق الباقة التي يختارها الأديب، ولا تمثل رسومها مقابلاً لمجرد إتاحة مكان للتوقيع، وإنما مقابل مجموعة من الخدمات التي تقدمها الجمعية للأديب بحسب الباقة المختارة.
ولفت إلى أن الباقة الاحترافية تتضمن تقديم ندوة نقدية متخصصة مصاحبة لتوقيع الإصدار، تأتي تكريساً لحضور النقد بوصفه شريكاً للعمل الإبداعي، وترسيخاً لدوره الخلّاق في قراءة المنجز والكشف عن مواطن القوة والضعف فيه بكل حياد وموضوعية، بعيداً عن التبعية والثناء المجرد؛ بما يسهم في إثراء التجربة الإبداعية وتطويرها، ويعزز حضور الممارسة النقدية الجادة في المشهد الأدبي.
وعدّ النعمي تقديم خدمات مدفوعة للمؤلفين لتنظيم فعاليات توقيع الكتب والترويج لها نموذجاً معمولاً به لدى عدد من المؤسسات والجهات الثقافية والأدبية والتعليمية ودور النشر في دول مختلفة، وتتفاوت نماذجه بين رسوم المشاركة، وباقات تنظيم فعاليات التوقيع، وخدمات إطلاق الكتب والترويج لها وتصويرها وتوثيقها؛ ومن ثم فإن أصل هذا النوع من الخدمات ليس ممارسة مستحدثة في القطاع الأدبي والثقافي.
وأكد أن جمعية الأدب المهنية إحدى مؤسسات القطاع غير الربحي، وتعمل، شأنها شأن مؤسسات هذا القطاع، على تنويع مصادر دخلها وتنمية مواردها الذاتية، بما يعزز استدامتها المالية ويحد من اعتمادها على الدعم المباشر، ويعينها على أداء المهام المنوطة بها وخدمة القطاع الأدبي.
The initiative by the Professional Literary Association to allocate a book signing platform for five thousand riyals received negative reactions, as it imposes financial burdens on the author.
The former president of the association, Dr. Saleh Ziad, criticized the service, writing on his account on the platform “x”: “I was shocked when I read the announcement from the Professional Literary Association, which invites writers to organize book signing events, with benefits including a critical seminar, media promotion, and comprehensive organization, in exchange for the author paying 5000 riyals.”
He suggested that this is a result of the commercial perspective of the company responsible for executing the association’s work, clarifying that two criteria should be distinguished: cultural merit and the ability to pay.
Ziad considered the signing event, along with the critical seminar and media promotion, to be an essential function of the literary institution in selecting and highlighting good works and fostering dialogue around them.
He added: “When payment becomes a condition for this presence, the criterion for celebration becomes the author’s ability to bear the cost, rather than the value of the book and its cultural merit.”
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Professional Literary Association, Dr. Hassan Al-Nami, clarified that the book signing platform is an “optional service” provided by the association for authors wishing to benefit from it, and there is no obligation to participate. The author has complete freedom to choose the appropriate place and means for signing their release, explaining that it offers a package of professional, organizational, and promotional services accompanying the signing of releases, according to the package chosen by the author. The fees do not merely represent access to a signing space, but rather a range of services provided by the association to the author based on the selected package.
He pointed out that the professional package includes offering a specialized critical seminar accompanying the signing of the release, reinforcing the presence of criticism as a partner in the creative work and establishing its creative role in reading the work and revealing its strengths and weaknesses with neutrality and objectivity, away from dependency and mere praise; which contributes to enriching and developing the creative experience and enhances the presence of serious critical practice in the literary scene.
Al-Nami considered providing paid services for authors to organize book signing events and promote them as a model practiced by several cultural, literary, educational institutions, and publishing houses in various countries. The models vary between participation fees, packages for organizing signing events, and services for launching and promoting books, documenting, and photographing them; thus, the origin of this type of service is not a novel practice in the literary and cultural sector.
He emphasized that the Professional Literary Association is one of the non-profit sector institutions, and like other institutions in this sector, it works to diversify its income sources and develop its own resources, which enhances its financial sustainability and reduces its reliance on direct support, enabling it to perform the tasks assigned to it and serve the literary sector.
