The Federal Reserve (the American central bank) kept the main interest rate unchanged, as the council maintained the overnight benchmark interest rate in the range of 3.50 – 3.75%, in its first meeting of 2026.

The American central bank stated in its announcement: “The unemployment rate has shown some signs of stability, while job gains remained low,” noting that the decision to maintain the interest rate was supported by 10 members, while 2 members opposed it, preferring a reduction of 25 basis points.

It is worth mentioning that the American central bank ended 2025 with a third rate cut decision during its last meeting in December.
